November/December 2006 Prize
- 1 Nov 2006 to 31 Dec 2006 -
Western Digital Raptor
This hard drive is seriously bad-ass! It continues to destroy every other SATA hard drive on the market in performance tests. The only thing that even compares to it is other Western Digital Raptors. I want it! I want it to have my children! But instead of feeding my ridiculous obsession for fast computing, I'm giving one away.
- Capacity: 74 gigs
- Interface: Serial ATA-150
- Spindle Speed: 10,000 RPM
- Memory Buffer: 16 MB
- Average Seek (msec): < 4.5
Some hard drive companies design desktop-class drives with the SATA interface. To meet the demands of enterprise storage, WD is going one better. WD is the only company combining a 10,000 RPM enterprise-class mechanical platform with the SATA interface to meet all the demands of the enterprise environment-reliability, performance, and reduced cost.
WD produces the world's most reliable SATA drives. With 1.2 million hours MTBF, enterprise duty cycle, 5-year warranty, next-generation SATA technology, and state-of-the-art vibration tolerance, WD Raptor drives offer the best combination of reliability, high capacity, and performance for enterprise applications. Read the rest of the propaganda at the Western Digital site.
Secondary Prize Option
We realize that not everyone will be interested in the monthly prize (some people are scared of dinosaurs). That's why we've decided to offer a secondary prize option each month. Contest winners living outside the continental U.S. or those not interested in our standard prize can receive a $100 gift certificate to Amazon.com instead. If you win the contest we will send an email asking which option you prefer before mailing out the prize.
